Sukkot Sichot

An Interfaith Conversation about Affordable Housing in New Jersey

The Jewish festival of Sukkot is a joyous time of celebrating that follows, by less than a week, the serious and solemn day of Yom Kippur. The festival commemorates both the forty year period when the children of Israel wandered in the desert and lived in temporary shelters following their exodus from Pharoh's Egypt as well as the Fall Harvest. Sukkot is the Hebrew word meaning "booths" and refers to the temporary huts erected in ancient fields during the busy fall harvest season and also temporary dwellings the Jewish people lived in during those years of wandering.  Because Sukkot has themes of wandering, shelter and vulnerability, many synagoges and organizations use this holiday as an opportunity to focus on social issues.

Date:   Saturday, September 25, 2010
Time:   TBA
Place:  Princeton, NJ

FIP is co-sponsoring this years event with
The Interfaith Community Action Network of New Jersey (ICAN).
